The EAA gets savvy with social media

 

As more and more Americans flock to Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, universities across the country are jumping on the social media bandwagon. Alumni associations, in particular, are harnessing the power of social media websites to expand their reach and engage alumni, and the Emory Alumni Association (EAA) is ahead of the curve.

Scenes from a Homecoming

Emory Homecoming Weekend, September 24–26, required a special kind of vision. With one eye on the sky, which threatened to open up (and occasionally did) throughout the celebration, and the other on the dozens of events stretching from Oxford to Atlanta, a delicate balancing act was necessary to pull off the whole operation. Judging from the positive feedback, though, and the smiles all around, the mission was accomplished. See the Spirit Day photos.

Emory Cares around the world

Saturday, November 14 marks the seventh annual celebration of Emory Cares International Service Day. Last year, nearly 1,000 members of the University community took part in Emory Cares service projects, and this year, with nearly 40 cities in nine countries on five continents taking part, that number is sure to grow and many worthy causes will benefit.

Alumni, student mentorship continues

The Alumni Mentoring Program, a partnership between the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Emory Alumni Association (EAA), will begin its second year in spring 2010 following a successful pilot run earlier this year. The program facilitates opportunities for students to connect with alumni in their respective fields of interest.

As is tradition, Oxford’s Alumni Weekend 2009 included a convocation, where alumni, faculty, staff, students, and other friends of Oxford came together to celebrate the college and honor this year’s recipients of its annual alumni awards.

Alumni trio earns Candler honors

The Candler School of Theology annually recognizes three alumni who have achieved distinction in their service to God, the church, and the community. On Tuesday, October 13 Candler honored those exemplary individuals who have made extensive contributions to the field of ministry and their communities.

New grants total $11M in stimulus funding

Emory scientists have earned 12 National Institutes of Health (NIH) Challenge Grants and six Grand Opportunity (GO) awards from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (stimulus) funding. The two-year grants total almost $11 million in the first year of funding and are among 153 grants totaling more than $53 million awarded to Emory researchers in the first year of stimulus funding.
