May 7-11, 2009
Emory Commencement Weekend is the five-day campuswide celebration of Emory and
coincides with commencement in mid-May each year. Many Emory Commencement Weekend
events have become valued traditions such as the Candlelight Crossover, Corpus
Cordis Aureum induction and participation in Commencement, the
Torch and Trumpet Soiree, and the Block Party and the Concert.

Emory Commencement Weekend honorees span generations… those who graduated 50 years
ago to our graduating seniors. And, of course, all Emory alumni in
between are welcome to celebrate Emory Commencement Weekend!
Emory Commencement Weekend begins on Thursday evening when graduating seniors
cross over the Houston Mill bridge from the Emory Conference Center
to the Miller-Ward Alumni House, symbolizing their transition from
students to alumni. Emory Weekend really kicks into gear on Friday
night at the Torch and Trumpet Soiree, a fabulous dance party and reception for graduating
students, their family, and friends. Saturday is highlighted by food, friends and music at the Emory Commencement Weekend Block Party!
Emory Commencement Weekend also features core events designed especially for graduates celebrating their 50-year class reunions and for earlier classes. Several schools will celebrate their formal 50-Year reunion during Emory Commencement Weekend in May, along with induction into Corpus Cordis Aureum.
Corpus
Cordis Aureum, which is Latin for “The Golden Corps of the Heart,”
is a special group of alumni who are inducted into the organization
at a special event on the Sunday prior to Commencement. At that
time, each new member will be given a specially commissioned medallion.
Next, all members of the Corpus Cordis Aureum are invited
to participate in the University Commencement ceremonies on Monday
on the Quadrangle. Clad in gold robes, the group will march in the
processional together and sit up front in the VIP section. During
the ceremonies, the group will stand and be recognized, symbolizing
all those Emory alumni who have gone before them.
Other events include classical concerts, campus tours,
and more. Emory Commencement Weekend is an event that you cannot miss! We hope
to see you there every year!
