Investigating blood toxicity and detecting poisons may sound like intricate plot points for an episode of CSI or Law and Order, but for Dr. Matthew Barnhill Jr. 66C 68G 75PhD, forensic toxicology consultant, these tasks are all in a day’s work. Barnhill takes the television comparison in stride. “I tell people that CSI has better writers and a bigger budget and better equipment than we do, and they have the privilege of working on one case at a time.”

Mind and body science

Established in 2001, the spring semester Emory Tibetan Studies Program was an early manifestation of the Emory-Tibet Partnership. Emory and its partner, the Institute of Buddhist Dialectics (IBD), expanded the program in 2009 to include the summer term focusing on Tibetan Mind/Body Science in conjunction with the Emory-Tibet Science Initiative.

A Yerkes’ research team led by Dr. Guido Silvestri, chief of Yerkes’ Division of Microbiology and Immunology and a Georgia Research Alliance Eminent Scholar, is making great strides doing just that.

Humanitarian Dr. Ben Carson to address 2012 grads

In just a few short weeks, internationally renowned neurosurgeon and humanitarian Benjamin Carson will deliver the keynote address at the University's 167th Commencement ceremony on Monday, May 14. Carson is a full professor of neurosurgery, oncology, plastic surgery and pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he has directed pediatric neurosurgery at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center for more than 25 years.
