Emory Gay and Lesbian Alumni (GALA)

About GALA:

GALA works to serve Emory and fellow alumni, friends and allies of the LGBT community while supporting academic traditions and ideals. We are proud to represent the contributions and potential of Emory’s past, present, and future lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender alumni.

GALA goals include actively participating in the Emory Alumni Association by planning, promoting, and delivering a variety of social, educational, professional, and networking programs and events. GALA also supports community engagement by supporting the Emory Office of LGBT Life and by facilitating campus outreach to LGBT faculty, students, and friends at Emory. Recently GALA has made a tremendous impact in fundraising efforts that provide scholarships for emerging student leaders.

Meet our Co-Chairs:

GALA is under the capable leadership of Co-Chairs,
Sharon Semmens 80C 80G and Cleve Shirah 87 Ox 89B

How you can become involved:

Get involved, plan ahead, or simply show up and meet the members. GALA plans several events each year, including social events like the much-anticipated Blue Jeans Brunch and Homecoming Reception, and GALA coordinates Emory’s presence at the annual Atlanta Pride Festival event. In 2008-2009 GALA will become more involved in outreach to students by coordinating with the Office of LGBT Life on a long awaited LGBTQ Career Panel and we may even bring back the highly successful Financial Planning Workshop for Individuals, Couples, and Families!

If you’d like to learn more simply write gala@emory.edu or attend a monthly planning meeting the 2nd Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Miller Ward Alumni House.
