In late August, the EAA hosted the first ever “drive in” regional leadership conference for chapter leaders on the west coast. Volunteers from Los Angeles, San Diego, Seattle, and San Francisco came together in Santa Monica, CA for a weekend of training and stewardship. Chapter volunteers were joined by local members of Emory leadership boards representing several schools & units.

Emory Alumni Chapters Maintain University Ties

Joining your local or regional Emory alumni chapter is a great way to stay in touch with Emory friends-and to meet new friends as well. With help from the EAA, Emory alumni in more than 40 locations around the world enjoy regular get-togethers through an Emory alumni regional chapter. Chapter meetings and events open new doors to alumni involvement in local communities, to valuable career networking with other successful alumni, to lifelong learning and leadership opportunities within the EAA, and to alumni leadership in the continuing success and shaping of Emory University. And in addition to all these benefits, membership in your regional Emory alumni chapter is fun, for you and your entire family.

Emory’s regional alumni chapters are governed by representative leadership, with alumni, parents, and friends sharing ideas and nurturing their Emory connections. Volunteer leaders are a key link between the university and its alumni.

For Recent Graduates

Is there a place in EAA for very recent Emory grads? You bet: just ask someone on a Young Alumni subcommittee. Many local Emory alumni chapters have a number of younger alumni volunteers, and the EAA Young Alumni subcommittees rely on this enthusiastic and talented pool. The subcommittees work hard-and play hard-to help younger alumni stay in touch with the university and with each other, as well as gain useful, transferable skills and visibility in group leadership, committee work, community service, and volunteerism in a supportive environment.

If you would like to learn more about serving on a Young Alumni committee, please contact chapters@emory.edu or 404.727.1160.

Wanted:  Alumni Leaders with a Vision

As Emory alumni, we are all vested in the University's Vision Statement:

Emory University will be a destination university internationally recognized as an inquiry-driven, ethically engaged, and diverse community, whose members work collaboratively for positive transformation in the world through courageous leadership in teaching, research, scholarship, health care, and social action.

In keeping with the broad aims of this vision, the EAA works to support the engagement and involvement of all of our alumni through numerous interest groups. Emory vision-themed topics or groups are open to all interested alumni.

Regional Chapters and Volunteer Leadership

Regional chapters support the mission of the EAA by strengthening relationships among local alumni, parents, and friends; by providing lifelong learning and leadership opportunities; and by facilitating regional participation in the life of the University.

Volunteer leaders are a key link between the University and its alumni. In each regional chapter, alumni, parents, and friends share ideas, plan activities, and nurture their Emory connection. Chapters are completely volunteer-driven, with consistent support and management from the EAA staff who provide leaders the tools necessary to govern the chapter, organize programs, and promote the goals and mission of the University. This model allows the EAA to maximize Emory’s reach beyond the staff and resources available in Atlanta, and it develops strong regional leadership for the University. Chapter involvement is a manageable commitment of time and energy; the rewards are tremendous; and it’s fun!

Young Alumni Leadership and Alumni Interest Groups

Some regional chapters have subcommittees that engage particular populations. Common examples include groups for local Young Alumni, Caucus of Emory Black Alumni (CEBA), and Gay and Lesbian Alumni (GALA). These groups work in coordination with the regional chapter to promote events and programs for their members and to prepare their leaders for positions and service in regional and school-based alumni chapters.

If you are interested in developing a Young Alumni group in your region, please contact chapters@emory.edu or 404.727.1160.
