Recipients of the Turman Alumni Service Award

Isabel Garcia 99L

Isabel is a 1996 graduate of University of Florida and a 1999 graduate of Emory University School of Law.

She is a founding partner of the Piedmont Law Group, a boutique law firm in Atlanta engaged in the practice of commercial real estate. As such, she plays an active role in large commercial transactions involving the acquisition, leasing, or lending of office towers, mixed use developments, technology parks, and multifamily apartment communities. In addition to practicing law, Isabel has been on the faculty of continuing legal education seminars, served on the Executive Committee for the Real Property Law Section of the Georgia Bar Association, and currently serves on the Executive Committee of Military and Veterans Law Section of the Georgia Bar Association and the Board of Directors of her sons’ private school.

Isabel has been an enthusiastic ambassador for Emory University through her volunteer work with the Emory Alumni Association, serving on the University Senate as well as an eight-year term including one year as President of the Emory Alumni Board. During her time on the board, Isabel played an integral role in the selection of half a dozen alumni trustees and many award recipients.

In 2007 with then Emory student, Anna Altizer Dix, she led the production of the handbook known as The Emory Memory: Traditions, Legacy & Lore. She has been a guest speaker at the Law School on issues such as the role of women in the law, transactional practice of law, and the importance of alumni/student mentoring. She was also a guest speaker at the 2013 LeaderShape Conference. Isabel has worked with the 1915 Scholars Program for three years and is engaged with six scholars; providing these first generation college students educational and social support and mentoring.

When not working or busy with Emory activities, Isabel is raising two young sons while her husband serves our country as Commander in the United States Navy, with over twenty (20) years of service, often deployed to far reaching and difficult locations.
